Rhyme Time: Musically-Inclined Sublime Punchlines
Led by Colten Winburn & Daniel Matthews (Dallas, TX, Chicago, IL) Date: Saturday, April 12, 2025 Time: 11:00am-1:00pm Price: $50 Location: Zounds Sounds (10050 Shoreview Rd, Dallas, TX 75238) An introduction to short form, premise based musical improv focusing on skills to improve rhyming technique, consistency, and finding the game. Join Colten and Daniel for two hours of silly singing, bolstered by their cumulative decades of being goofy lil guys. About the Instructors: Colten and Daniel started performing together at the UNT Improv Club in 2011 where they would go on to run workshops as the leaders of the club. They graduated from the improv and sketch programs at The Dallas Comedy House, separately(to their dismay). In 2017 they joined Four Day Weekend, honed their musical improv chops, and eventually trained a new generation of performers in the art of rhyme. It’s debatable whether they have spent more time singing together on stage, or singing together in their cars on the way to sing on stage. You can catch Colten at the Four Day Weekend Dallas mainstage shows, and Daniel at the Annoyance theater’s Tuesday Musical Improv. |

Puppet Playtime for the Stage
Led by Daniel Matthews (Chicago, IL) Date: Saturday, April 12, 2025 Time: 2:00-4:00pm Price: $50 Location: Zounds Sounds (10050 Shoreview Rd, Dallas, TX 75238) Have a love for fleece and felt? Never know what to do with your hands while performing? Join professional improviser and puppeteer Daniel Matthews for a crash course in puppetry for the stage. Daniel will cover the basics of stage puppet techniques such as proper eye focus and tuning in your lip sync as well as some techniques to performing as a human with puppet scene partners. Come learn that there’s more to puppets than just flapping mouths and flailing arms (though those are fun too!) and inject your scenework with something metaphorically warm and literally fuzzy. Please note: Daniel will not be teaching ventriloquism. He cannot do that. Optional Workshop Add-On: Take your workshop puppet home! About the Instructor: Daniel Matthews has been a professional puppeteer since 2013, getting his starting experience at the Beyond the Sock Workshop held at the University of North Texas. He began performing freelance puppetry for the screen very soon after, and eventually found a way to combine his love of puppets and improv together. Daniel assembled the Dallas-based improv team Empty Inside with whom he performed regularly at the Dallas Comedy House and subsequently The Monday Night Feast. Daniel also performed a recurring improvised puppet segment in the Four Day Weekend mainstage show for many years. |
